The company had been working with an existing user interface for several years, adding functionalities here and there as their requirements evolved. With each addition the complexity had crept upwards. Without a holistic goal, functional hierarchies disappeared and controls stopped making sense.
After gathering information on the UI’s issues, I proposed a multi-stage improvement plan for steady improvement with minimal disruption.
Helping a UI find its way back to clarity.
Labeling cryptic information for improved clarity
Swap positions of the company and product logos
Include column labels to further improve legibility and comprehension at a glance
Navigation improved to reflect most-used functions and better findability
Improve chassis name visibility
Stop controls disappearing when toggled by improving their placement
Improve slot-usage legibility
Offer the toggling off of dense, occasionally-relevant information
Update the look and feel to better reflect dark and light themes
