Quantifi photonics had been using various online libraries for their icons. However, nobody had coordinated on their choices, resulting in a chaotic look and feel in their interfaces.
As part of the work creating the UI for their signal processing software VISIQ I started work on a shared library of icons. I saw this as an opportunity to create a clearer brand identity for their various platforms and also scoured their existing UIs to make a comprehensive list of every existing icon.
From there, I set a series of icon design rules that reflected their Quantifi Photonics’ brand and started work on designing icons.
The finished product was exported as a library of readily accessible image files. I also worked alongside the lead developer for the existing software - which had used an icon font instead of separate image files - to create a replacement font that would automatically update across the various platforms with minimal additional development work required.
My goal for the icon library’s look and feel was:
Minimalistic so as not to add unnecessary clutter to extremely complex and cluttered interfaces
Approachable and friendly to promote the company’s goals of creating user-focused interfaces
Clean and polished to follow the high-quality focus of Quantifi Photonics’ brand guidelines.
